Sem Kramer

Sem Kramer transforms traditional piano performance through spontaneous musical creation. What started at age four on grandmother’s piano has developed into a distinctive approach that bridges classical structure with jazz-inspired freedom.
Drawing inspiration from masters like Chopin and Debussy alongside jazz legends such as Keith Jarrett, the music speaks directly to the moment. Performances range from intimate recitals that move audiences to tears to high-energy celebrations where dynamic playing gets entire wedding parties dancing.
Based in Amsterdam, recent performances have taken place in venues across Canada, Italy, UK, and France. The ability to read a room and adapt improvisation accordingly creates versatile musical experiences that connect with diverse audiences.
The music flows directly from emotion, channeling both joy and melancholy into original compositions that resonate with listeners. This approach offers a fresh perspective on timeless musical traditions, making classical-inspired music accessible and immediate for contemporary audiences.

The debut album “Love Junkie” came from reflecting on past relationships and realizing how dependent love can make someone feel. All those overwhelming emotions – the highs, the lows, the obsession – were translated into improvised piano compositions.
Alex Covert created the album artwork, while the music features contributions from cellist Qusai Naim and clarinetist Martin Grozdanoski. India Zahra and Charley Ranzino share their own experiences with love through poetry.
Recorded at Hidden Gem studio in Amsterdam, all track are musical moments born from feelings and memories. The combination of improvised piano with cello, clarinet, and personal poetry creates a collection that explores different sides of love’s most intense experiences.

Performing is passion – improvising feelings onto the keys feels ecstatic. Music becomes a language that conveys messages people can feel rather than simply hear.
Amsterdam’s vibrant musical scene offers constant opportunities for collaboration, dancing, and creative energy. In 2024, the first album was released at Tenclub alongside the featured artists, selling out the 150-person venue. The night turned into something special – a real celebration of what happens when musicians and audience connect.
Playing with other musicians happens regularly across Amsterdam’s diverse venues. Performances take place at Ruigoord during big festivals like Landjuweel and Vurige Tongen. Or at spaces like ADM or ADAM toren, intimate house concerts, cafes both small and large, a yoga studios like Stretch&Fold, and even on boats floating through the canals,
Regular collaboration with artist Alex Covert explores performance art. One ongoing piece called “VULNERABILITY / POWER” features Alex creating art while Sem plays improvised piano. She blindfolds herself and dances while making the artwork, not worrying about how it turns out. How powerful can you be while being most vulnerable?
